Camera Obscura & World of Illusions partners with multiple charities across Scotland, and last week we went to visit the Calum's Cabin charity on the Isle of Bute. Calum's Cabin provide holiday homes for families affected by childhood cancer, so that they can make irreplaceable memories during a very difficult time. They also have 9 flats in Glasgow close to cancer treatment centres which allow families to stay together during long-term treatment. We donate our unclaimed lost property to their charity shop on the island, ready to be sorted and resold.

Friday morning bright and early, we filled the car and set off across Scotland to Wemyss Bay, where we caught a ferry to Rothesay on the Isle of Bute. We were met by Caroline, mum of Calum who sadly passed away in 2007 due to an inoperable brain tumour. Calum's dream was for other families to have the chance to make unforgettable memories together, which is what inspired his family to open the holiday homes in his memory. Caroline showed us around two of the homes which were busy being prepared for the next families; she explained that most of their accomodation is fully booked well in advance and they have a long list of families waiting to visit the beautiful Isle of Bute.

Caroline took us to a stunning lookout on the south coast of the island and then showed us their two charity shops and office. Seeing behind the scenes of the charity really made us appreciate how much hard work goes in to helping the families that have children battling cancer, and how the staff go above and beyond to relieve the family of any stress that might usually come with planning a holiday.

We're continuing our work with Calum's Cabin and encourage our visitors to read more about this very worthy cause. Read about Calum's story here and learn how you can support the charity here
