Looking for family-friendly Halloween activities in Edinburgh? This October, Camera Obscura & World of Illusions is getting a spooky makeover, with a Halloween Hunt, live characters, ghostly surprises and five floors of interactive fun.
From 10–31 October 2026, families can enjoy Halloween activities throughout the attraction, all included with standard admission.

What Halloween activities are there at Camera Obscura?
There’s plenty of spooky fun to discover at Camera Obscura & World of Illusions this Halloween.
Take on our Haunting Halloween Hunt, meet mischievous Halloween characters, discover ghostly projections and themed decorations, and explore more than 100 interactive exhibits and illusions across five floors.
Our Halloween characters will also be coming to life during selected afternoons and evenings. Look out for a wonderfully wicked witch, step into the strange world of our marvellously mad scientist, and keep your eyes peeled for other Halloween favourites roaming the attraction.
Expect playful interactions, unusual experiments, fun photo opportunities and plenty of surprises along the way.

Is Halloween at Camera Obscura suitable for children?
Yes! Halloween at Camera Obscura is designed to be spooky, not scary, making it a great Halloween activity for families and children in Edinburgh.
There are no big scares. Instead, expect silliness, colourful characters and a fun Halloween atmosphere as you make your way around the attraction.
Our ghoulish guides will even be sharing family-friendly local Halloween stories during the famous Camera Obscura show.
What is the Halloween Hunt?
Our Haunting Halloween Hunt takes place every day from 10–31 October 2026 and is included with admission.
Our lovable mascot Dizzy has created a spooky squad by dressing up as five famous Halloween creatures. From Frankenstein and Dracula to Mummy and Werewolf, there’s a different character hiding on each floor.
Pick up a trail sheet when you arrive and see if you can track them all down. Find the complete spooky squad and a sweet treat will be waiting for you in our Gift Shop at the end of your adventure.
What else can families see this Halloween?
Halloween fun can be found throughout Camera Obscura & World of Illusions.
As you explore our five floors, look out for themed decorations, ghostly projections, scary portraits and hair-raising photo opportunities, alongside all our usual interactive illusions.
Brave the Vortex Tunnel, lose yourself in the Mirror Maze, change size in the Ames Room and enjoy spectacular views of Edinburgh from our Rooftop Terrace.
With more than 100 interactive exhibits to discover, there’s plenty to keep the whole family entertained.

You’ll find Camera Obscura & World of Illusions at the top of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, beside Edinburgh Castle.
Our Halloween celebrations run from 10–31 October 2026, making them ideal for an October day out, Edinburgh school holiday activity or family Halloween adventure in the city centre.
Best of all, our Halloween Hunt, decorations and character appearances are included with standard admission.
Can you save money on Halloween tickets?
Yes. From 24–31 October 2026, visitors can save £4 on standard ticket types when booking selected early morning or evening entry times. The discount is automatically applied when you choose an eligible time online. Book for entry before 9am or after 7pm.
