Retail

We are currently recruiting permanent retail staff.

We are looking for dynamic, customer focussed team members with relevant sales oriented experience in a fast moving retail environment. Camera Obscura and World of Illusions is a VisitScotland 5-Star rated visitor attraction consisting of Camera Obscura presentations, Rooftop Terrace, exhibitions, reception area and shop. The job of a Retail Assistant at Camera Obscura involves interacting with and serving customers, using tills, cash handling, replenishing stock in our gift shop, dealing with deliveries, assisting in maintaining adequate stock levels and processing orders from suppliers, taking part in events and even dressing up as our mascot, Cameron the Bear.

We know that work life balance is important, we always try and be as flexible with shifts as possible.

Guides 

We are currently recruiting full/part-time Guides to help cover our busy summer period.

The job of a Guide at Camera Obscura & World of Illusions is an interesting and varied one. You will be required to give presentations in the Camera Obscura to groups of up to 35 people, as well as working in the exhibition spaces to ensure our visitors are getting the most out of their visit. In addition to selling tickets to the public at reception you will be required to promote the attraction to passers-by in the street.

You will need a sound knowledge of the local area to answer queries from visitors.

Cleaners

We are currently recruiting part-time Cleaners to keep our hands-on exhibits, and other facilities, all clean and presentable for our visitors during our busy summer period.

We're looking for a dedicated cleaner to join our team. The role will involve cleaning tasks during opening hours, approximately 10-25 hours work per week over 2-5 days. The hours worked will be during weekends and busy school holiday periods, during our opening hours of 9am-9/10pm. A typical shift will be 10am-3pm.

Job Type: Part-time
Salary: £8.25 /hour

Marketing Assistant (Digital) 

We're looking for a Marketing Assistant with a digital focus to join our team. This is a new role, allowing for the opportunity to develop the marketing and digital activity for this five star attraction. 

If you are passionate about communications, have a talent for all things online, enjoy being part of a busy team and are looking for an exciting challenge, then this is the job for you.

Technical Designer 

Based at Camera Obscura & World of Illusions, Edinburgh, the Technical Designer role is an exciting new role that bridges the gap between our development and maintenance teams.

The Technical Designer will work closely with the Visitor Experience Manager and Technical Manager; developing our exhibit resource by documenting and improving current exhibits, developing our design strategy, developing relationships with suppliers and working on new exhibits.

Our design aims for exhibits are to offer a unique, interactive and sustainable product for visitors, with visitor experience being the most important consideration. The right candidate will understand and work well within our unique limitations; tight install/maintenance times, extreme wear and tear, a centuries old building across 8 levels without a lift.

Key skills
• 3D design
• Product Design Engineering
• Knowledge of exhibits/public exhibitions/displays
• Hands-on skills/ comfortable in workshop environment
• Digital manufacturing
• Eagerness to learn
