Pinwall

Camera Obscura & World of Illusions is thrilled to announce the launch of our newest interactive exhibit, the Pinwall!

Our Pinwall exhibit, also known as a pin screen, is made of - you guessed it - thousands of long plastic pins that create a three-dimensional impression of any object pressed against them. 4947 pins to be exact!

Originally invented by physicist Ward Fleming in 1976, the Pinwall allows guests to create temporary 3D sculptures and portraits by pressing objects, or themselves against the bed of densely packed, oversized pins. This dynamic exhibit demonstrates the fascinating principles of shape, form, and contour in real-time.

Based on the concept of pixels on a video monitor, the Pinwall uses thousands of coloured, moulded plastic pins to create a detailed 3D impression of any object or person, simply by touching it! Whether it’s the imprint of a hand, a face, or any other object, the Pinwall captures the imagination of children and adults alike, offering an endless array of creative possibilities to ‘make your mark’.

"This exhibit is a blend of science, art, and interactive fun." says Andrew Johnson, our General Manager. "We are excited to see how our visitors express themselves creatively with the Pinwall, and it makes a fantastic, unique photo opportunity."

The Pinwall is one of over 100 interactive exhibits visitors can get involved with at our attraction. It is now open to the public as part of the regular admission to Camera Obscura & World of Illusions. Make your mark and share your photos with us on social media!
